Memphis Strong — carrying the legacy of 1968
Powering · Labor Education

The union that builds America's school buses — Thomas Built workers in High Point since 1916.
UAW Local 5287 represents the workers of Thomas Built Buses in High Point, North Carolina — a company that has been building buses since 1916 and today, as part of Daimler Truck North America, builds the school buses that carry millions of American kids, including the electric Jouley.
In the 2024 Daimler master agreement, Thomas Built workers won something they had chased for years: absolute pay equity. The divisive wage tiers between bus and truck manufacturing were eliminated — equal pay for equal work across the Daimler family — on top of at least 25% in raises, first-ever COLA, and profit sharing.
The local's office sits on North Main Street in Archdale, and its contract runs through February 2028 — the same historic settlement that covered 7,400 Daimler workers across six Southern facilities.
