Thirty-Five Years of Union Trucks in Mount Holly

UAW Local 5285 represents workers at the Freightliner Truck Manufacturing Plant in Mount Holly, North Carolina. The local was born from an organizing drive that started in June 1989 — workers won their certification election on April 16, 1990, and ratified their first contract on December 20, 1991.

In 2024, Mount Holly workers helped win the historic UAW–Daimler Truck master agreement: at least 25% in raises, cost-of-living adjustments and profit sharing for the first time in company history, and the end of wage tiers — ratified 94.5% across 7,400 workers at six facilities.

Local 5285 lives its solidarity beyond the plant gate: the union hall on East Charlotte Avenue runs a community food bank every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 1 PM, with appointments available for anyone who can't make those hours.
