UAW Local 1853

UAW Local 1853 is an amalgamated local in Spring Hill, Tennessee — a diverse workforce covering different companies around one of the most storied sites in American auto history: the plant GM built for Saturn, 'a different kind of car company,' where labor-management partnership was written into the founding idea.

Today the local represents workers at General Motors Spring Hill, Ultium Cells, Adient, American Food & Vending, Comprehensive Logistics, Leadec, Magna, Ryder, and MPS — from the assembly line to batteries, seats, logistics, and plant services.

As Walter Reuther told the UAW Constitutional Convention: 'There's a direct relationship between the ballot box and the bread box, and what the union fights for and wins at the bargaining table can be taken away in the legislative halls.' Local 1853 lives that lesson in Tennessee every day.
