Teaching Steward Classes

Teaching other stewards is one of the most impactful things you can do for the labor movement.

Preparing a Class:

• Know your audience — new stewards vs. experienced ones

• Set clear learning objectives for each session

• Use real examples from your experience

• Prepare materials in advance (handouts, slides, scenarios)

Effective Teaching Methods:

• Storytelling: Real grievance stories make concepts memorable

• Role Playing: Let participants practice representing members

• Group Discussion: Let participants share experiences

• Case Studies: Work through real scenarios together

• Q&A: Always leave time for questions

Class Structure (90 minutes):

• 5 min: Welcome and introductions

• 10 min: Overview of the topic

• 25 min: Lesson content with examples

• 20 min: Interactive exercise or role play
