International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union) is one of North America’s largest and most diverse industrial unions — 600,000+ active and retired members across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico, in more than 200 industries.

Founded in 1888 by 19 machinists in a railroad pit in Atlanta, GA, the IAM today represents workers who build, repair, and fly America — from Boeing and Lockheed Martin aerospace lines to General Dynamics shipyards, from airline mechanics to automotive workers, woodworkers, defense workers, federal workers, transit workers, and beyond.

The IAM is headquartered just outside Washington, D.C. and is led by International President Brian Bryant — a pipefitter from Bath Iron Works who became the union’s 15th International President on January 1, 2024.
