Memphis Strong — carrying the legacy of 1968
Powering · Labor Education

Millington, Tennessee
Angela Latrice Burton kept her secrets for years — like so many survivors do. Then she did the bravest thing a survivor can do: she wrote them down and signed her name. Today she is a published author, a collegiate graduate, a women's rights advocate, and the proud mother of her son Tory — a college graduate who champions everything she does.
Angela works full-time in an acute mental health facility serving children — spending her days protecting kids walking through storms she knows firsthand. Her books aren't just stories; they are a hand reaching back for every woman still suffering in silence.
"My hope is that the reader will find their own voice and develop the strength to confront their trauma from the unspeakable acts that have silenced them… The coward that we know as abuse desires to control the abused so they will not tell a soul."
— Angela Latrice Burton, Her Untold Secrets
Born in Millington, Tennessee, Angela survived childhood trauma and abuse — and like most survivors, she learned early that silence felt safer than judgment. Abuse thrives on that silence. It leaves shame and embarrassment in its wake, and it convinces the abused to protect the secret even while the secret is destroying them.
Angela broke that cycle. She earned her degree, raised her son, built her career caring for children in crisis — and then she told the truth. Her Untold Secrets (2025) is her lived testimony of overcoming adversity and finding her voice. Our Love Story is what came after: a nearly fifty-year bond with her high school sweetheart, proof that surviving is not the end of the story — it's the beginning of a better one.
She writes as a trilogy of lived experience, and she's not finished — her first novel, Living with a Stranger, arrives soon.

Angela's debut — written for everyone carrying painful secrets. In her own words, her hope is that readers "find their own voice and develop the strength to confront their trauma from the unspeakable acts that have silenced them." She names abuse for what it is — a coward that controls through silence and shame — and shows what it takes to finally release the secret and reclaim your life.

A Nonfiction Story
The other side of Angela's testimony: a lifelong bond with her high school sweetheart that has lasted nearly half a century. Proof that after surviving the worst, love — real, patient, safe love — is still possible.
