The Memphis local representing Memphis Light, Gas & Water (MLGW) electrical, gas, water, and general-services workers.
IBEW Local 1288 represents the electrical, gas, water, and general-services workers of Memphis Light, Gas & Water (MLGW) — the public utility that keeps the lights on, the gas flowing, and the taps running for nearly a million Memphians every single day.
Local 1288 is part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) — one of the oldest and largest unions in North America — and is affiliated with the AFL-CIO Building & Construction Trades Department.
Under the leadership of Business Agent Corey Hester, the Local has grown into one of the most active community-service unions in the Mid-South — bargaining strong contracts at MLGW while also funding the IBEW-Jonnie Dawson Charitable Foundation, which pays senior citizens’ electric bills and hosts the annual food giveaway.
The Foundation is the heart of IBEW Local 1288’s community-service program. It funds:
“Under Corey, the union keeps the lights on for the people who built this city.”
