MECCA MemphisA cultural beacon in the heart of Memphis — where African and African American art, culture, and community intersect.
MECCA Memphis is the cultural hub and storefront of Memphis Artists for Change (MAC) — an arts-centered community and economic development organization that weaves the arts into community-sanctioned change in underserved neighborhoods. Located in historic Whitehaven Plaza, MECCA offers a curated selection of African and Memphis-made art and goods that celebrate Black heritage and creativity — with every purchase supporting local Black artists, artisans, and authentic Motherland vendors.
African sculptures, Memphis artistry, home accessories, and bookshelf decor — sourced from local Black artists and authentic African vendors.
Part of MAC's call to the creatives — a space for artists to connect, create, organize, build power together, and sell their work.
Performances, exhibits, film conversations like The Exchange, and community events — host your own event at MECCA or Art House Cafe.
MAC mobilizes to protect public values, encourages civic participation, and builds collaborative partnerships that create platforms for power movement.
MAC funds small community-based organizations, distributes resources, and fights food insecurity and environmental injustice in underserved neighborhoods.
Platforms for performances, exhibits, workshops, and lectures — plus art initiatives and placements in underserved communities.
Memphis Artists for Change aids community and economic development by mitigating food insecurity and environmental injustice, encouraging civic engagement, and developing arts-centered programming in underserved communities. MECCA Memphis puts that mission on the shelf: a store and gathering space in Whitehaven where buying local means building Black wealth and community power. Open Wed–Sat, 12pm–5pm at 4080 Elvis Presley Blvd.
Art has always marched with labor — from union banners to strike songs. MECCA Memphis and Memphis Artists for Change organize creatives the way unions organize workers: building power, funding community-sanctioned change, and keeping dollars in the neighborhood. Labor Education is proud to feature MECCA as a community partner — stop by the store, host an event, and support Memphis artists.
